The Crinan Canal, often referred to as "Scotland's most beautiful shortcut," connects Loch Fyne and the Firth of Clyde with the Sound of Jura with the Atlantic Ocean. Originally constructed in the early 19th century as a vital trade route for shipping goods and passengers between the west coast and the Clyde estuary, the canal now serves as a tranquil waterway for leisurely boat trips and scenic walks and cycle rides.

Approaching the Crinan end of the canal
It provides an ideal traffic free and easy walk or cycle. Being flat and reasonably wide, even younger children can often cycle along it successfully. We have a number of bikes available to borrow, (see 'bikes to borrow', under drop-down menu 'Holiday Home') or bring your own if you prefer. We can provide them with indoor storage, too!
